This combination supports wide-angle, portrait, and everyday photography. The lens also includes Vibration Compensation (VC) for improved shooting stability. Its flexible zoom range makes it a practical choice for travel, portraits, and video recording. This Tamron 17-70mm f/2.8 APS-C Zoom Lens offers useful features in one compact camera lens.

17-70mm Zoom Range

The Tamron 17-70mm Zoom Lens covers a useful wide-angle to short-telephoto range. Its 17mm setting works well for landscapes, architecture, and group photos. At 70mm, it provides a suitable perspective for portraits and closer framing. On Sony E-mount APS-C cameras, it offers a 35mm equivalent focal length of 25.5-105mm. This flexibility makes the lens suitable for travel, everyday photography, and different creative compositions.

F2.8 Aperture for Consistent Exposure

The Tamron 17-70mm f/2.8 Lens features a constant maximum aperture throughout its zoom range. Unlike variable-aperture zoom lenses, it maintains F2.8 from 17mm to 70mm. This helps photographers maintain consistent exposure settings while zooming. The wide aperture also supports low-light shooting and background separation. Its nine-blade circular diaphragm helps create smooth background rendering. This Tamron Constant Aperture Zoom Lens is useful for portraits, indoor photography, and video recording.

VC Image Stabilization

The Tamron 17-70mm VC RXD Lens features Vibration Compensation (VC) technology. This optical image stabilization system helps reduce camera shake during handheld shooting. It is useful when capturing photos at slower shutter speeds or recording video without a tripod. The stabilization system adds flexibility across different shooting situations. Whether you are photographing travel scenes or recording everyday moments, this Tamron 17-70mm Image Stabilization Lens supports steadier camera operation.

RXD Autofocus

The Tamron 17-70mm RXD Autofocus Lens uses a Rapid eXtra-silent stepping drive system. Its RXD motor provides quiet autofocus operation for different photography needs. Reduced focusing noise is also useful when recording video. The lens offers a minimum focusing distance of 19cm at the wide end and 39cm at the telephoto end. Its maximum magnification ratio reaches 1:4.8 at 17mm. These focusing capabilities provide added flexibility for close-up compositions.

Optical Construction

The Tamron 17-70mm Di III-A Lens features an optical construction of 16 elements in 12 groups. Its design includes two GM (Glass-Molded Aspherical) elements, one hybrid aspherical element, and LD glass elements. These specialized elements help manage optical aberrations. The lens measures 74.6mm in maximum diameter and 119.3mm in length for Sony E-mount. It weighs approximately 525g, making it convenient for regular use. A 67mm filter thread supports compatible photographic filters.
